ICPC arraigns two UBEC officials for visa scam

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission  on Wednesday arraigned Beatrice Molokwu and Jasper Erekosima, employees of Universal Basic Education Commission, for allegedly producing false documents to the Embassy of Belgium for a visa.

The ICPC prosecutor, Mr. Michael Adesola, told the court that the accused in June conspired and

produced a fake UBEC document and presented same as genuine to the embassy with the intention to procure a Belgian visa.

Adesola said Erekosima also in June procured a false statement of Account Number 0034172650 of GT Bank, with the intent to deceive the embassy to get visa for one Udoka Cyril.

Adesola also told the court that Erekosima on or about the month of June, made a false stamp bearing the Department of Public Health, with the intent to use it to get a yellow card.

The prosecutor said the offence is contrary to the provisions of Section 97 of the Penal Code and punishable under Section 364 of the law.

If convicted, they may be sentenced to 14 years in jail each or with fine or both.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
