The Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Mr. Tunde Fowler has expressed the determination of his organization to partner with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) in the crusade against corruption.
Mr. Fowler made the declaration at the inauguration of the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) of the organization recently in Abuja.
The Executive Chairman, explained that it was the desire of FIRS to support ICPC in the fight against corruption by ensuring that it created systems and structures that would encourage the organization’s staff to maintain high ethical standards in their day- to- day duties.
‘’The functions performed by staff of this Service are very significant, therefore, all the issues which ACTU promotes, such as transparency, accountability and good governance in the public service are key to the success of an organization like FIRS, which collects revenue for the government’’, he said.
Earlier, the Chairman of ICPC, Mr. Ekpo Nta, who was represented by Mr. Justin Kuatsea, of Corruption Monitoring and Evaluation Department (CMED) had said that there should be no misconception about the role of ACTU in the agency.
‘’ACTU is not to witch-hunt anyone or spy on this organization, but rather to propagate and entrench high ethical standards required for it to achieve its mandate’’, Mr. Kuatsea stated.
He urged the new ACTU members to dedicate themselves to their duties in a responsible and transparent manner.
