AMAC ACTU receives New Lease of Life

In its continuing effort to entrench accountability and integrity in government ministries, departments and agencies, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has inaugurated the new members of the Anti Corruption Transparency Unit (ACTU) of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).

The Council’s ACTU had gone dormant due to the death of two of its members, while another one had left service. There, therefore, arose a need for it to be rejuvenated.

Speaking at the event, ICPC Chairman, Mr. Ekpo Nta who was represented by Mr. Justin Kuatsea of the Corruption Monitoring and Evaluation Department (CMED) said that the Commission was in AMAC to advise, instruct and direct the Council on the path of accountability and integrity.

‘ICPC is here to galvanize the Anti Corruption Transparency Unit of Abuja Municipal Area Council and add impetus to the efforts of eradicating corrupt practices in our public institutions of which Abuja Municipal Area Council is one’, he said.

Mr. Nta further charged the management of the council to ensure that their systems, processes and manpower are not unduly exposed or enmeshed in corrupt tendencies.

He advised the new members to ensure that the principles of integrity, accountability and transparency were the operating guidelines in AMAC.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Chairman of AMAC, Hon. Abdullahi Adamu, said the values of ICPC were becoming known in all government ministries and departments through ACTU.

Hon. Adamu charged the executive of the ACTU to always do the right thing while upholding the values of accountability and integrity.

‘Be up and doing. You may not be excellent but do all things possible to correct the ills of corruption to make our society a better place for even our children yet unborn’, he said.

He encouraged the inaugurated members of ACTU to set their eagle eyes on the affairs of all departments for better service delivery.

In his acceptance speech, the Chairman of ACTU, Mr. Attahiru Yakubu Ibrahim pledged to promote the values of accountability and integrity in AMAC.
