BPP reports Nnamdi Azikiwe varsity to ICPC

The Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) has urged the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences (ICPC) to investigate the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Anambra State over subverting procurement process in awarding of contract.

A petition filed before the Commission by the BPP faulted the process adopted by the University in awarding the contract for the construction of access roads in favour of Messrs Daniels Construction Company ahead of Messrs Earthworks Limited.

ICPC’s Head Public Enlightenment, Mr. Mike Sowe said the BPP Director, Eng. Emeka Eze, explained that the contract was awarded at the cost of N332m to Messrs Daniels Construction Company instead of Messrs Earthworks Limited which submitted a superior bid with a shorter completion period and a lower tender sum of N325m.

He said that by failing to award the contract to the most qualified bidder, the University has breached Section 58 of the Public Procurement Act 2007.

The ICPC said it has commenced investigation into the petition.

If guilty, the commission will prosecute the institution under Section 19 of the ICPC Act.
