The Kano State office Commissioner of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Mr. Yahaya Shehu has urged employees of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), to reduce corruption to the barest minimum through their collective effort.
The ICPC State Commissioner, who was represented by Suleiman Muhammad Maishanu of the Corruption Monitoring and Evaluation Department (CMED) of the Kano State office, in a Keynote Address delivered at a one-day sensitization workshop organized by the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Monitoring Unit (ACTU) of NPHCDA to sensitize staff of the organisation, advised that they “should not give corruption breathing space in your workplace.”
He further urged staff of NPHCDA to abide by the ethical standards of their organization and maintain a culture of integrity while performing their duties.
Mr. Yahaya further implored the participants to be steadfast in the fight against corruption and thereby contribute their quota to nation-building.
While delivering a paper titled, “Corruption and Its Effects on the Public Service”, Mrs. Zainab Sani Nass of ICPC Legal Unit, Kano State office, advised that public servants should serve with a high sense of responsibility, integrity and absolute loyalty.
She stated that public servants were major players in implementing government’s programs and policies; hence the need for them to render their services with diligence and dedication.
Mrs. Sani further called on the participants to shun all forms of fraudulent acts and unethical practices that compromise effective service delivery bearing in mind the mandate of their organization.
In a vote of thanks, the Zonal Coordinator of NPHCDA, represented by Head of Admin, Mrs. Wasilat Oladunjoye, commended ICPC for its effort and pledged that her organization would continue to support the fight against corruption.
In another development, the Kano State Head of ICPC, Mr. Shehu Yahaya has charged corps members serving in Katsina State to make integrity their watchword.
Mr. Shehu made the charge during an advocacy visit by members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) ICPC/Community Development Service (CDS) Group Katsina State to the Kano State office of ICPC.
He explained that ICPC/CDS Group was created nationwide to afford youth corps members the opportunity to join in the fight against corruption and also act as positive change agents amongst their colleagues.
In his lecture on integrity, he advised the corps members to dedicate themselves to disseminating anti-corruption messages throughout their service year and beyond.
Earlier in his opening remarks, the president of the ICPC/CDS Group, Mr. Victor Aderonmu Olusegun, stated that, he believed that the visit would strengthen the relationship between the group and ICPC. He pledged the commitment of the group to the Commission’s anti-corruption campaign.
