The Chairman of the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) of the Nigerian Immigration Service Kano State Command, Mr. Dahiru Yusuf, has complained of lack of suitable accommodation as one of the hindrances to an effective discharge of their functions.

Mr. Yusuf made this revelation during a courtesy visit he paid to the State Commissioner in charge of Kano ICPC, Mr. Dan Musa Zayyana. He said the aim of the visit was to brief the new State Commissioner on the status of ongoing activities of the unit.

Mr. Yusuf who was in the company of other members of the ACTU pointed out the achievements of the Unit to include: stoppage of child-trafficking in collaboration with the National Agency for Prevention of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP); settling disputes among officers of the Command; combating touting at the passport office; etc.

The ACTU Chairman also lamented that lack of funds was hampering the effective performance of the unit’s enlightenment duties through the production of posters, pamphlets, stickers, etc.

In his response, the ICPC Commissioner said he was delighted with the zeal for anti-corruption exhibited by the ACTU officials, promising to pass on their complaints to the appropriate authorities and assuring them that they would be looked into.

ACTUs are one of the corruption prevention initiatives established by ICPC; they are, to all intents and purposes, mini-ICPCs within MDAs but without the power to prosecute.
