The Nigerian Navy has handed over a female fraudster to the Independent Corruption Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), who was arrested for parading herself as a representative of the Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) Admiral Ebok-Ete Ibas.

The suspect, Grace Nwanzor, was transferred to the custody of the ICPC, on behalf of the Naval Chief, by Commodore Jason Gbassa, the Commander Naval Unit Abuja, on Tuesday at the Navy Headquarters.

Gbassa said Nwanzor was arrested after a compliant by one of her victim she swindled the sum of N200,000 adding that she was picked up in Gudu, Apo area of Abuja by reinforced naval personnel after first resisting arrest.

He said Nwanzor had an office in Gudu from where she acted as an estate developer on behalf of the Chief of Naval Staff, and tricked her victims into buying property in the ongoing construction of Navy town, Asokoro, Abuja.

He added that during preliminary investigation, documents were recovered from the office which included a layout design of the ongoing construction of Navy town, Asokoro.

He said Nwanzor collected N200,000 from the complainant as payment for registration forms to be a prospective buyer of property in the Navy town, which she allegedly marketed at N50 million per unit.

He said they also discovered she was on the wanted list of ICPC.

He said the Navy used the occasion to hand her over to the anti-graft commission for further investigation so as to deter others from such practices.

Fielding questions from journalists, an official of the ICPC, Wellington Nkemadu who signed the handover note for the ICPC, said Nwanzor was wanted over a recruitment scam.

He said she was implicated in the scam investigated by the ICPC in the Office of the Head of the Federal Civil Service.

He explained that Nwanzor at that time was invited by the ICPC, but remained evasive and was consequently declared wanted.

He said after further investigation by the ICPC, she would be charged to court according to the law.
