The Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Prof. Bolaji Owasanoye has charged the management and staff of National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) to always uphold transparency and accountability in the discharge of their duties.
Prof. Owasanoye made the charge through Justin Kuatsea of the Corruption Monitoring and Evaluation Department (CMED), at the inauguration ceremony of the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit of the agency recently.
The ICPC boss said that the task of ensuring a cleaner and healthier environment for Nigeria is one that requires people of integrity, while adding that compromising on such a duty may lead to disaster.
He then called on the management and staff of the agency to imbibe a culture of sacrifice, dedication and team spirit in order to promote accountability and transparency in the day-to-day operations of NESREA.
To the newly inducted members of ACTU, Prof. Owasanoye said, “Stand out in all your dealings and do not witch-hunt anyone. Work closely with management and all staff to fulfill your mandate”.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Director-General of NESREA, Prof. Aliyu Jauro, said that there could not be progress with corruption in the agency and therefore, applauded ICPC’s effort in setting up ACTU in the Agency.
He advised all the staff not to leave the work of fighting corruption to the unit alone but to play their role by always acting with integrity in order to achieve a corruption-free NESREA.
