The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission in its bid to rid Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of corruption recently inaugurated and swore- in the executive members of the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Monitoring Unit (ACTU), for the Hadeja-Jema’are River Basin Development Authority (HJRBDA).
Chairman of the ICPC, Mr. Ekpo Nta, who spoke through Mr. Sabiu Iliyasu, Head of ICPC Kano Office at the event in Kano, applauded the management of the HJRBDA for their firm determination to partner with the Commission in the fight against corruption.
Mr. Nta said, “ACTU in this organization was initiated in order to implement self-monitoring and internal cleansing mechanism, which if properly utilized is expected to be a catalyst to the transformation of the institution to a corruption-free environment.”
In his paper presentation titled, “Operational Structure of the ACTUs in the MDAs,” Mr. Sabiu Iliyasu, called on the management of the HJRBDA to see the ACTU members as partners in progress and not foes, and offer them all support needed for them to carry out their duties effectively.
Earlier in his opening remarks, Managing Director of the HJRBDA, Alhaji Abba Dahiru, praised the ICPC for its initiative and said the institution under his care is willing to partner with the Commission in the fight against corruption, thus presenting a corrupt-free Nigeria for the future generations.
