ICPC Urges Students to Embrace Integrity and Ethical Values

The Lagos State Office of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has called on young Nigerians to uphold integrity and ethical values as they prepare to become the nation’s future leaders.

This appeal was made during a sensitisation lecture at Tombee Royal School by Mrs. Mary Omonoyan of the ICPC’s Public Enlightenment and Education Unit.

In the paper titled “Fight for Your Dreams and Future.”, she encouraged students to stand firm in their moral convictions despite societal pressures, emphasising that ethical choices are key to building a better Nigeria.

“You must understand that wrong is wrong, even if everyone is doing it; and right is right, even if no one is doing it,” Mrs. Omonoyan stated passionately.

She urged students to cultivate honesty, diligence, and respect for family, religious, and cultural values, noting that these are the foundations of a just and equitable society.

The interactive session sparked meaningful discussions among students, teachers, and the school’s proprietress.

Participants reflected on the critical role integrity plays in achieving personal goals and national development. Students were also encouraged to take an active stand against corruption by reporting unethical practices to school authorities or directly to the ICPC.

Mrs. Omonoyan specifically warned against academic malpractice, describing it as a serious barrier to both personal growth and the nation’s progress.

In her remarks, the school proprietress, Mrs. Olufunmilato Olafisoye, expressed appreciation to the ICPC team. Noting that “Integrity is the cornerstone of our institution. We will continue to partner with the ICPC to raise students who are upright and responsible.”

Also speaking, Mr. Attah Alhassan, Coordinator of the Students Anti-Corruption Club, praised the initiative for its positive influence on the students’ character development.
stressing that “These lessons are laying a solid foundation for molding our students into ethical citizens,”. He also reaffirmed the school’s commitment to instilling moral values both in academics and extracurricular activities.

A highlight of the event was a storytelling segment centered on integrity. The story illustrated the victory of truth over deceit and highlighted how honesty fosters trust and enduring success.
