ICPC Pledges Strategic Partnership to Foster Peacebuilding Efforts

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has expressed its commitment to collaborating with the Nigeria Peace Summit Group in implementing peace-driven resolutions aligned with national anti-corruption objectives.

This commitment was made known in a goodwill message delivered on behalf of the ICPC Chairman, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, during the 2025 National Peace Summit and Humanitarian Awards held recently in Abuja. The Nigeria Peace Summit Group and the Cheren Peace Foundation jointly organized the summit.

Represented by Deputy Director, Mr. Hassan Salihu, the ICPC Chairman emphasized the growing need to integrate anti-corruption measures into peacebuilding initiatives in Nigeria. “This strategy is not only innovative but significantly potent in peace-building,” he remarked.

Highlighting the Commission’s ongoing initiatives, Dr. Aliyu noted that the Constituency and Executive Projects Tracking Initiative (CEPTI) and the Accountability and Corruption Prevention Programme for Local Governments (ACPP-LG) are critical tools for fostering good governance. He explained that these programs enhance service delivery and democratic dividends, which in turn contribute to sustainable peace.

He reiterated that the Commission’s work is increasingly recognized as a pivotal force in promoting peace through institutional accountability and transparency.

In his address, a representative of the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Kashim Shettima, GCON, underscored the importance of citizen participation in national development.

“Nation-building is not a spectator sport. Every citizen must be involved in shaping the future of the country,” he said. He added that rather than merely critique, Nigerians must collectively cultivate a political culture that prioritizes national interest.

The Deputy Senate President, represented by his Special Assistant on Policy and Monitoring, Professor Bashir Mohammed, mni, spoke on the role of effective conflict management in sustaining peace. He noted that Nigeria’s diversity should be harnessed as a strength rather than a source of division.

“If we want better leaders, let us look around and do things differently. Leaders are products of the community,” he stated.

Other dignitaries at the event which were represented included the Chief of Defense Staff, represented by Rear Admiral O.A. Bankole; Assistant Commandant A.A.
