Accountability & Corruption Prevention Programme for Local Governments (ACPP-LG)
Following the Nigeria’s Supreme Court landmark judgment on July 11, 2024, granting full financial and administrative autonomy to its 774 Local Government Areas (LGAs). The ruling, delivered by a seven-member panel led by Honourable Justice Emmanuel Akomaye Agim, affirmed that local governments are constitutionally entitled to receive their federal allocations directly.
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), in collaboration with the Center for Fiscal Transparency and Policy Initiative (CeFTPI) and the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) lunched the first Accountability and Corruption Prevention Programme for Local Governments (ACPP-LG) as a strategic intervention to enable local government authorities with capacity to curtail corrupt practices and promote accountability while the ICPC and NBA provide oversight.
The launch was attended by representatives of organizations such as Public Complaint Commission, Fiscal Responsibility Commission, Nigeria Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU), Senate Committee on Anti-corruption, House Committee on Anti-corruption, National Youth Service Corp (NYSC), Nigeria Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative (NEITI), Technical Unit on Governance and Anti- Corruption (TUGAR), Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) and many International organisations among others.
