ICPC Katsina Calls on Nigerian Youth to Lead Anti-Corruption Change

In a continued effort to secure meaningful youth participation in the national fight against corruption, the Katsina State Office of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has held an anti-corruption sensitisation programme for members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

The event took place on Thursday, 22 January 2026, at the Government Girls’ Senior College in Katsina. The Resident Anti-Corruption Commissioner (RACC) for Katsina State, Mr Samuel S. Lodam – represented by Mr Sani Tarauni Tukur of the ICPC’s Media and Public Communication Unit – urged executive members of the NYSC Community Development Service (CDS), Katsina “A” Chapter, to reject corruption in all its forms and to embrace lives of integrity, honesty, and transparency.

During his address, Mr Lodam emphasised that corruption severely undermines national economic development, jeopardises the future of young people, and erodes public welfare. He stated that combating corruption is a collective responsibility that extends beyond government action, requiring active engagement from youth and the general public to achieve a corruption-free Nigeria.

The Commissioner outlined how corruption erodes integrity, destroys trust, and fosters illiteracy, poverty, underdevelopment, and moral decline in society. He counselled the corps members to consistently demonstrate honesty, ethical conduct, and transparency throughout their national service and in their future careers.

Participants were also informed of the ICPC’s core mandates —enforcement, prevention, public education, and youth mobilisation—as established in the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000.

In his remarks, the President of the NYSC CDS Group, Katsina “A” Chapter, Mr Abubakar Anas, commended the ICPC for its commitment to restoring Nigeria’s values. He pledged the group’s continued support for the Commission’s anti-corruption initiatives during and beyond their service year.

Mr Anas also requested that the ICPC provide informational and educational materials to assist corps members in conducting community sensitisation programmes in schools and local areas.

The session concluded with a reaffirmation of the principle echoed by former OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurría: “Integrity, transparency and the fight against corruption have to be taught as fundamental values.”
