Building a Culture of Integrity: ICPC Katsina Tasks Students to Be the Change

In a continued effort to secure meaningful youth participation in the national crusade against corruption, the Katsina State Office of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has called on students to actively engage in the fight with the aim of instilling in students a culture of honesty and integrity that will guide their future endeavours.

This appeal was made to the students of the Federal University of Transportation in Daura during a sensitisation programme.

The admonition was delivered today by Mr. Abdullahi Alhassan of the System Study and Review Unit, who represented Mr. Samuel S. Lodam, the Commission’s Resident Anti-Corruption Commissioner (RACC) for Katsina State. The one-day event was organised by the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) of the university.

In his remarks, Mr. Lodam emphasised that the fight against corruption is a collective responsibility, particularly for the nation’s youth. He described corruption as a “three-headed monster” responsible for the majority of contemporary challenges facing the country. He stressed that to guarantee social and economic security, all citizens must unite to stem the tide of corruption that is adversely affecting the economy.

The RACC informed the participants that a robust partnership and strong collaboration between the Commission and the student body would be instrumental in raising awareness.

Mr. Lodam also highlighted various youth-oriented programmes run by the ICPC and expressed his appreciation for the students’ desire to 0establish a Students Anti-Corruption Vanguard (SAV) within the institution.

Earlier, in his welcome address, the Deputy ⁰Registrar of the university, Malam Abubakar Tanimu Yar’adua, described the fight against corruption within tertiary institutions as crucial. He urged students to 0uphold academic honesty, resist negative peer pressure, and engage in value-driven activities both on and off campus. He praised the ACTU sensitisation programme as both 0timely and highly interactive, describing it as an inspiring and motivational experience for the students.

The Deputy Registrar further commended the ⁰anti-corruption initiatives of the ICPC under the active leadership of its Chairman, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, and lauded the Commission’s commitment to ⁰achieving a corruption-free Nigeria.

The highlight of the sensitisation programme was the ⁰presentation of two papers: “Staff Punctuality and Its Impact on the University” and “Corruption in the University System and Its Implications.” These were delivered by the Deputy Registrar, Malam Abubakar Tanimu Yar’adua, and the Head of the Legal Unit, Hajiya Halima Ibrahim Safana, Esq.
