ICPC, Security Agencies Join ECAPI for Anti-Crime Awareness Walk in Lagos

Lagos State Office of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) joined forces with other security agencies and stakeholders for an Anti-Crime Solidarity Walk and Awareness Campaign, organised by the Eagle Crime Awareness and Prevention Initiative (ECAPI) in the Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government Area of Lagos.

The campaign brought together representatives from the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC),  National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA),  Department of State Services (DSS), and  Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).

Its primary objective was to sensitise members of the public to the dangers of crime and to underscore the importance of collective action in fostering community safety.

The event began at the Area G Command Headquarters in Ogba, where participants gathered before embarking on a road walk through key locations, including Ogba Market, Agege Under Bridge, and Ishaga Roundabout.

Addressing the gathering, the ICPC representative, Mrs. Oluwaseyi Ade-Adams, stressed that tackling corruption and crime demands a ‘whole-of-society’ approach. She noted that citizens must play an active role in upholding integrity and reporting unlawful behaviour. Mrs Ade-Adams described initiatives such as the awareness walk as vital in educating the public, especially young people, on the importance of making responsible choices and resisting involvement in criminal activities.

She further reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to collaborating with relevant stakeholders and community-based organisations to advance transparency, accountability, and ethical conduct across all sectors.

According to ECAPI, the organisers, the campaign is part of a sustained effort to reduce crime and social vices at the grassroots level, while empowering young people to become agents of positive transformation within their communities.

Throughout the walk, participants carried placards bearing anti-crime messages and engaged residents and traders along the route, reinforcing the message that crime prevention is a shared responsibility.

The event concluded with a renewed call for enduring partnerships among government agencies, civil society organisations, and the public in the collective pursuit of a safer, crime-free society.
