JIGAWA STATE GOVT, ICPC STRENGTHEN ALLIANCE TO COMBAT ELECTORAL CORRUPTION AHEAD OF GENERAL ELECTION

The Jigawa State Government (JGSG) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) have agreed to join forces to curb the scourge of vote buying and selling across the state.

The landmark agreement was reached recently during a courtesy visit by the Resident Anti-Corruption Commissioner (RACC) for Kano and Jigawa States, Ahmad Muhammad Wada Esq., to the Secretary to the Government of Jigawa State, Malam Bala Ibrahim, at his office in Dutse.

Speaking during the visit, the Resident Anti-Corruption Commissioner underscored the ICPC’s tripartite mandate: enforcement, prevention, and public enlightenment and education. He explained that the visit was strategically aligned with the third pillar of the Commission’s mandate, which seeks to enlist and foster public support in the ongoing war against corruption.

Mr Wada further reiterated the Commission’s unwavering commitment to combating electoral malpractices, with particular emphasis on vote buying and selling, which he described as a grave threat to democratic governance.

In his response, the Secretary to the Government of Jigawa State, Malam Bala Ibrahim, expressed the state government’s readiness to partner the Commission. He assured the ICPC of all necessary support and cooperation to curb electoral offences in the forthcoming general elections.

Malam Ibrahim affirmed that the Jigawa State Government remained committed to upholding democratic values and would work tirelessly to ensure that the forthcoming elections were conducted in an atmosphere devoid of manipulation and malpractice.

The collaboration is expected to bolster the Commission’s anti-corruption drive and reinforce public confidence in the electoral process as the nation prepares for the general elections.
