In the annals of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), the names of our fallen heroes are etched, not in stone, but in the very fabric of our nation’s conscience. They were more than public servants; they were sentinels at the gate of our collective integrity and steadfast guardians of a promise for a better Nigeria.
These exceptional men and women served the country with unwavering dedication, unshakeable commitment, and profound patriotism that defined their professional lives. They understood that the fight against corruption was not merely a job but a calling – a noble crusade to build a nation where transparency and honesty would flourish. They stood firm in the face of immense challenges, embodying the core values of the ICPC: integrity, courage and justice.
It is with profound sorrow that we recall our departed friends and colleagues. They were not just names on a roster; they were family. They were the colleagues who shared in our daily struggles, the friends who offered encouragement in moments of difficulty and the patriots who inspired us with their resilience. Their demise has left a deep and irreplaceable vacuum in the ICPC.
We remember:
1. Late Mrs Mari Zara Tijjani, Asst Director, Operations Dept, ICPC Abuja. A dedicated professional whose commitment to the cause was an inspiration to many.
2. Late Mrs Oluwatoyin Adejoke Alaba, Asst Director, SS Dept, ICPC Abuja. A passionate advocate for justice whose warmth and resolve touched all who knew her.
3. Late Mr Nwaobilor Emmanuel, Chief Superintendent, SSR Dept, ICPC Abuja. A steadfast colleague whose quiet strength and diligence were a cornerstone of his team.
4. Late Mr Kumiyawo Kyauta, Chief Anti-Corruption Assistant, PRS Dept, ICPC Abuja. A devoted public servant who gave his all to the service of his country.
5. Late Mr Usman Saidu, Asst Chief Superintendent, POCM Dept, ICPC Bauchi State Office. A man of principle whose integrity was a guiding light to his peers.
6. Late Mrs Aniebue Chinyelu, Asst Chief Superintendent, PRS Dept, ICPC Abuja. A tireless worker whose contribution to our mission will not be forgotten.
These were exceptional and clean-cut public servants who concluded their public service in death. They were young officers in their prime, with promising careers and lives still unfolding before them. They did not leave the service through retirement or transfer; they gave their last breath in the course of duty and, in doing so, paid the ultimate price for the nation they loved. These bereavements, which came upon the Commission within the span of 2026, are a loss not only to the ICPC but also to the entire anti-corruption family in Nigeria.
We therefore console the Board, Management and staff of the ICPC; the anti-corruption family in Nigeria; and the families, friends and loved ones of our departed colleagues. We pray that God grants you all the strength, comfort and fortitude to bear these irreplaceable losses. To the families of these young officers, we say: your loved ones were heroes, and their sacrifice will never be forgotten.
As we mourn their passing, we also celebrate their lives and legacy. They were heroes not in the traditional sense of battlefields but in the corridors of power where the fight for the soul of our nation is waged every day. They answered the call to service and did so with honour and distinction.
Their legacy is not one of grief but of duty. To their families, friends and loved ones, we offer our deepest condolences. We share in your pain and pray that you find strength and comfort in the knowledge that their sacrifice was for a cause greater than themselves. Know that their ICPC family stands with you.
To our departed colleagues, we make a solemn pledge: we will not falter; we will not retreat. We will carry the torch you have passed on and continue the fight with the same courage and conviction you embodied.
Sleep well, gallant soldiers of integrity. Your watch is over, but your legacy lives on in every case we pursue, every truth we uncover and every step we take towards a Nigeria free from the shackles of corruption.
May your gentle souls rest in perfect peace.
