ICPC Charges Secondary School Students to Report Corrupt Activities in their Surroundings

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has urged the students of the Federal Government College (FGC), Malali-Kaduna, to exercise courage and report every corrupt activity they see in their surroundings.

The Commission gave the charge recently, during a sensitization session carried out by Officers of the Kaduna State Office at FGC Kaduna, Kaduna State.

Speaking during the sensitization, Mr. Halliru Basheer Aliyu, an Assistant Chief Superintendent of the Commission, charged the students to be good ambassadors and key into the fight against corruption while ensuring they remain disciplined.

According to Aliyu, “report any form of corruption you see in your immediate environment to your teachers, the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) president in the school, or to the ICPC”.

He charged them to be bold and not to allow fear to make them cover up wrongdoings in society, but report to appropriate authorities so that actions can be taken to secure their future.

Mr. Aliyu called on the students to also ensure they cultivate the character of integrity by ensuring that things are done the right way, even while no one is watching, encouraging them to be punctual to school, as coming late to school is also a form of corruption.

The ICPC Officer further admonished the students to imbibe the culture of integrity, fairness, justice, transparency, and accountability not just within the school walls but as good citizens wherever they go.

In his response, the Vice Principal of the FGC, Sheik Sani Usman, thanked the officers of the Commission for coming to educate and enlighten the students on the various forms of corruption and how to reduce them to the barest minimum.

He assured the Commission of the College’s unalloyed support and partnership in the fight against corruption, adding that corruption should be the concern of every well-meaning Nigerian. Sheik Usman charged the students to be God-fearing and eschew all forms of corruption.
