ICPC-CSOs Partnership: Commendations Pour in, as Commission Tasks Stakeholders to Reaffirm Commitment to Ending Corruption

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has been commended by Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) for its partnership, just as it called on stakeholders to reaffirm their commitment to building a corruption-free society where leaders prioritize the well-being of citizens and the nation.

The Chairman of the ICPC, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu SAN, gave the charge at a National Integrity Summit organised by the Committed Advocates of Integrity Initiative (CADII), a non-governmental organisation, in collaboration with the Commission. The programme, themed: “Integrity is Everything” (Building Ethical Leaders for Sustainable Future), brought together Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), and other stakeholders to discuss the importance of ethical leadership at the Federal Ministry of Education, Abuja, on Wednesday.

According to the ICPC Chairman, who was represented by a deputy director of ICPC, Mr Kingsley Obi,

‘As we gather to discuss the importance of ethical leadership, let us strive to reaffirm our commitment to building a corruption-free society where leaders prioritize the well-being of citizens and the nation.’

‘This year’s theme resonates with the ICPC’s mandate, which is aimed at promoting good governance, enhancing public trust, ensuring accountability, transparency, and integrity in public service. We play a crucial role in holding government officials accountable by investigating allegations of corruption, recovering stolen assets, and ensuring that public resources are used for the benefit of citizens.’

Dr Aliyu further noted that the Commission was in partnership with NGOs nationwide to achieve its mandate of eradicating corruption in the country.

Over the years, we have partnered with NGOs, CSOs, and other stakeholders to inculcate, to a large extent, a culture of integrity and accountability in public service. Through initiatives such as the Constituency and Executive Project Tracking Initiative (CEPTI) and National Anti-Corruption Coalition (NACC), a platform for partnering and collaborating with NGOs, we have been able to improve service delivery and democratic dividend.’

The ICPC boss commended the efforts of CADII and other stakeholders while reiterating that their dedication to the task was essential in the fight against corruption.

‘I commend the Committed Advocates of Integrity Initiative (CADII) and Co-partners of this summit for their tireless efforts in promoting a new generation of ethically conscious leaders and commitment to advancing sustainable integrity. Your dedication to building a culture of integrity is essential in the fight against corruption and in fostering more trustworthy and responsible leaders.’

Speaking earlier in his welcome address, the Convener of the Summit, Comrade Charles Agubor, urged participants to ensure their character and actions speak louder than their words and equally expressed appreciation to the ICPC for its support and partnership.

“Let your character and actions speak louder than your words. Let your service to humanity reflect selflessness, and your ambition be guided by moral principles. The future of our nation rests on the shoulders of young leaders like you, and it is your integrity that will determine how far Nigeria will go in achieving her aspirations.”

“Today’s success is a testimony of collective effort, unwavering faith, and consistent support. Therefore, I want to sincerely thank all those who have contributed to the growth and sustenance of this noble initiative.

“To our esteemed partners, the ICPC, and other organizations and institutions who supported this noble initiative, we deeply appreciate your collaboration, encouragement, and institutional support over the years.”

“As we celebrate how far we have come, we must also look ahead with renewed determination. The work of promoting integrity and raising ethical leaders is a continuous process that demands consistency, sacrifice, and leadership.”

In his own remark, Dr Daniel Omofoman, Executive Director of African Electoral Integrity Initiative, said the Commission was a critical stakeholder in ensuring electoral integrity, noting that it was partnering with the Commission and others in that aspect.

In the same vein, Chief Dominic Ogakwu, President of Civil Society Group for Good Governance (CSGGG), expressed appreciation to the ICPC and lauded it for its support and especially the speed at which it approved anti-corruption initiatives from CSOs.
