The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has honoured members of staff who won medals at the 44th Annual Federation of Public Service Games (FEPSGA) held in Yola, Adamawa State, describing their achievements as a reflection of the Commission’s commitment to excellence both within and outside the workplace.
Speaking during the presentation of medals, the Secretary to the Commission and Chief Patron of ICPC Sports, Mr Clifford Okwudiri Oparaodu, said the recognition was aimed at appreciating officers who distinguished themselves at the national sporting event and brought honour to the Commission.
Mr. Oparaodu noted that sports play a vital role in promoting physical fitness, staff wellbeing and teamwork, adding that sporting competitions also project a positive image of the Commission within the public service.
ICPC participated in the 2025 FEPSGA with a contingent of 55 officers who competed in eight sporting events, including football, volleyball, badminton, draughts, swimming, Chess, Scrabble and athletics. The Commission’s most outstanding performance came in Swimming, where its athletes secured six medals comprising one gold, one silver and four bronze medals.
Among the standout performers was Emmanuel Titus, who won a gold medal in the 100m Backstroke and a silver medal in the 200m Backstroke. Alkasim Haruna also delivered an impressive performance, clinching three bronze medals in the 100m Freestyle, 100m Breaststroke and 200m Breaststroke events. The Men’s 4x50m Freestyle Relay Team, made up of Diseh Ibrahim, Alkasim Haruna, Emmanuel Titus and Shehu Salihu, added another bronze medal to the Commission’s tally.
The medal count contributed significantly to ICPC’s overall ranking, with the Commission finishing 26th out of 83 Ministries, Departments and Agencies that participated in the Games.
Encouraging the athletes to improve on their performance in future competitions, the Secretary urged them to begin preparations early whenever called upon to represent the Commission. He assured them of management’s continued support, pledging to provide the resources necessary for them to excel.
He congratulated the athletes on behalf of the Chairman, management and staff of the Commission, describing their achievements as a source of pride and inspiration to other officers.
As part of the recognition, the medalists received letters of commendation and cash rewards, with gold medalists receiving ₦100,000, silver medalists ₦75,000 and bronze medalists ₦50,000.
