ICPC Partners with INEC Ahead of Osun Governorship Election to Strengthen Anti-Corruption Measures

As preparations intensify for the Osun State Governorship Election, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting transparency and accountability in Nigeria’s electoral process.

This commitment was emphasized during a strategic courtesy visit by an ICPC delegation, led by the Resident Anti-Corruption Commissioner, Prince Yusuf Olátúnjí, to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office in Osogbo, Osun State.

Welcoming the delegation, Osun State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr. Mutiu Agboke, described the engagement as a timely and commendable initiative aimed at strengthening institutional collaboration.

The INEC Boss stressed that such partnerships are vital to safeguarding the integrity of elections and restoring public trust in democratic processes.

During the meeting, Prince Olátúnjí highlighted the ICPC’s pivotal role in combating corruption and fostering ethical standards across all sectors and noted that elections represent a critical juncture where vigilance against malpractices—such as vote-buying, inducement of officials, and abuse of entrusted power—is essential.

“The Commission is determined to work with INEC in promoting clean elections. We must protect the sanctity of the ballot by discouraging corrupt tendencies that undermine the will of the people,” Olátúnjí stated.

In response, Dr. Agboke commended ICPC’s proactive stance and reaffirmed INEC’s commitment to conducting free, fair, and credible elections in Osun State. He emphasized that sustained inter-agency collaboration would go a long way in enhancing public confidence in the electoral process.
