In a bid to curb corruption in Nigeria to the barest minimum, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has strengthened ties with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
This strategic move was made during a courtesy visit by the Resident Anti-Corruption Commissioner in charge of Rivers and Bayelsa States, Mrs Ekere Usiere, to the Sector Commander, Rivers Sector Command, CC Inyang Edet Umoh.
Mrs. Ekere Usiere emphasised the need for collaboration in the fight against corruption, saying, “Inter-Agency Collaboration is important in the fight against corruption because the ICPC alone cannot eradicate corruption from the system without cooperation from the public and other law enforcement agencies like the Federal Road Safety Corps”.
Mrs. Usiere further highlighted the need to sensitise public servants on the provisions of the law, as ignorance of the law is not an excuse.
In her words, “The Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act 2000, otherwise known as the ICPC Act 2000, is like a Bible to all public servants. So, all public servants need to be aware of the offences and penalties enshrined in the Act. This is part of the preventive measures the Commission carries out to help public servants to be in the know of the provisions and to abstain from any form of corruption.”
The Sector Commander, CC Inyang Edet Umoh, in his remarks pledged support for the cause, saying that the FRSC and the ICPC have been working together at the national level and that there is also commitment at the state level to follow suit in the existing relationship between the agencies.
