ICPC to Promote Financial Literacy Among Staff

The Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, has reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to enhancing staff welfare through financial literacy by taking steps to engage experts who can provide necessary guidance and training.

He made this known during a courtesy visit by the newly sworn-in executives of the ICPC Multipurpose Cooperative Society to the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja recently.

Dr. Aliyu emphasized the importance of financial preparedness, particularly as staff plan for eventual exit and retirement from public service.

“We need experts to talk to us on how we can be financially literate because it is really important. Once you join the service, start thinking and preparing for exit and retirement,” he said.

The ICPC Chairman encouraged staff to take advantage of available initiatives aimed at enhancing financial literacy. He assured the delegation that he would raise the issue at appropriate platforms to secure further opportunities for staff development.

Responding to proposals submitted by the Cooperative Society, Dr. Aliyu pledged to review and attend to the requests where feasible, while reiterating the Commission’s commitment to staff welfare.

He firmly warned against financial embarrassment among staff, noting that stricter measures would be enforced going forward.

The ICPC Boss further warned that serious consequences would be meted out to staff found to be financially embarrassed and urged the Cooperative executives to make appropriate findings before granting loans.

Dr. Aliyu concluded by charging the executives to discharge their duties with fairness, transparency, and diligence while encouraging them to always come forward with their requests and proposals.

Stating the purpose of the visit, the President of the Cooperative Society, Mr. Segir Mohammed Yunusa, expressed appreciation to the Chairman for the support extended to the Society under his leadership.

He described the Cooperative as a “livewire of the Commission,” highlighting its contributions to staff welfare.

Mr. Segir presented several proposals on behalf of the Society, including requests for assistance in accessing mortgage loans and addressing challenges such as remittance delays and shortfalls from IPPIS.

Also speaking, the Secretary to the Commission, Mr. Clifford Okwudiri Oparaodu, DSSRS, urged the Cooperative Executives to use their positions to serve the Commission responsibly.

He affirmed the Chairman’s commitment to reviewing the proposals and pledged support in areas where intervention is possible.

The meeting concluded with the formal presentation of the proposals to the Hon. Chairman by the President of the Cooperative Society.
