The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has urged students in the Department of Radiography at Bingham University, Nasarawa State, to uphold integrity, embrace ethical conduct, and shun all forms of corruption in their academic and future professional lives.
The call was made recently by an Assistant Chief Superintendent in the Public Education Department, Mr Mfon Umoh, during a sensitisation lecture titled “Promoting Integrity and Accountability in Healthcare: Combating Corruption and Unethical Practices in Medical Imaging and Radiography” at the university.
Mr Umoh urged the students to maintain integrity within their academic environment and to avoid unprofessional practices that could undermine their future careers.
He specifically cautioned them against fraudulent medical practices such as phantom billing, upcoding and unbundling, stressing that they must not misuse their professional qualifications to commit such acts in the healthcare sector.
Umoh also advised the students to stay away from cultism, sexual harassment, examination malpractice, deepfake technology and drug abuse, while encouraging them to become ambassadors of integrity by spreading the anti-corruption message wherever they find themselves.
He further challenged the students to strengthen the Students Anti-Corruption Vanguard (SAV) in the university as a platform for promoting accountability, ethical values and responsible conduct among their peers.
The lecture also highlighted the Commission’s interventions in the health sector, including the tracking of over 200 primary healthcare projects across the country and its collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare to strengthen corruption prevention measures in the sector.
