The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has charged students to desist from inappropriate and unproductive use of Social Media Platforms, and imbibe the culture of integrity and dedication in their search for knowledge.
The Commission gave the charge recently at its Kaduna State Office, when it played host to Students of Shehu Giwa Academy, Badarawa-Kaduna, who were at the Office for a Study Tour.
The ICPC Resident Anti-Corruption Commissioner (RACC), Kaduna State, Mr. Sakaba Ishaku, who received the Students on behalf of the Commission, charged them to eschew unethical and inappropriate involvement with the social media tools in their pursuit for knowledge.
According to the RACC, most information on the social media spaces were fake, misleading and capable of corrupting the moral behaviors of younger people, thereby depriving the country of so much potentials.
In his words, “….do not be misled by the fake life that the social media platforms feed the world with, but be contented, patient, grateful and focused on your education, as you will reap its benefits in the long run”. He further charged them to resist unethical behaviors and report corrupt activities to either the school authority or the ICPC.
Mr. Ishaku seized the opportunity to call on the Students to maintain the habit of integrity, fairness, justice, transparency and accountability, not only in school, but wherever they find themselves.
In his remarks, the Vice Principal of the Academy, Mr. Mus’ab Abubakar, who led the students on the Visit, thanked the Commission for the warm welcome and revealed to the RACC that they were at the ICPC Office to expose their students to the various modus-operandi of the anti-graft agency, adding that it was their hope that the young learners could gain knowledge from the visit.
According to the Vice Principal, their visit to the Commission’s Office with the Students was necessary as it is the Vision of the Shehu Giwa Academy, Badarawa, to raise future leaders who will be ready to advance the culture of integrity and accountability in our society.
He described the Commission as one of the organisations that promote such values that are in consonance with their Vision, hence the choice of the ICPC Office as their visiting destination.
Mr. Mus’ab Abubakar assured the RACC of the School’s readiness to join hands with the Commission in helping to reduce corruption in the Country to the barest minimum, noting that collaboration was imperative as the fight against corruption should not be left for the anti-graft agencies alone.
