The Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu has said fighting Corruption at global level would boost Africa’s ecosystem.
Dr. Aliyu represented by the Secretary to the Commission, Mr. Clifford Okwudiri Oparaodu, DSSRS made this charge when the delegation of the Office of the Attorney General Republic of Mozambiquepaid an experience sharing tour to the Commission’s facilities recently.
The ICPC Boss harped on the importance of collaboration and exchange of ideas amongst anti-corruption agencies globally noting that such collaboration would prevent and fight corruption for a more effective anti-corruption policy.
“Terrorism and illicit trade affect economic interest of every society, it is important we collaborate together in the fight against corruption to avoid economic retrogression and to boost our ecosystem” he noted.
He went further to notes the need for developing countries to create synergies, avoid duplication of efforts and bring mutual benefit most especially in the aspect of asset recovery.
He further advocated for a network of new impetus to corruption prevention efforts across Africa and to abide to the international best practices and practical guidance in various aspects of common interest.
“A collaborative enlightenment programs need to be carried out to make people understand the effects of corruption according to international best practices” he said
Earlier in his address, the Head of the Delegation, Public Prosecutor, Mr. Sueta Angelo Manuel stated that the purpose of visiting ICPC was to build on existing relationship and explore areas of collaboration.
“We believe we can learn from ICPC and probably also learn from us. We can also explore areas of collaboration and work together. Now that the World has become a global village, people can sit in the comfort of their homes and commit crimes whereas some of the evidences are held in other jurisdiction so it is important that we work together.” he said.
A brief discussion was exchanged on success stories and strategies for fighting high level corruption with speakers drawn from ICPC operations and legal departments and among the visitors.
