ICPC Revives Anti-Corruption Unit at UNN for a Renewed Commitment to Integrity

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has formally inaugurated the reconstituted Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), Enugu State, signalling a renewed commitment to integrity and accountability within the nation’s ivory tower.

The ceremony, which took place recently at the University’s premises, marked the end of a six-year dormancy for the Unit.

Speaking at the inauguration, the ICPC Chairman, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, represented by Kabir Elelu, Esq., the Resident Anti-Corruption Commissioner (RACC) for Enugu State, expressed gratitude to the University’s management for their warm reception and for heeding the Commission’s call to revive the Unit.

“The re-establishment of this Unit represents a significant stride towards embedding a culture of integrity, accountability, and ethical conduct within this institution. Transparency and accountability are not mere buzzwords; they are the essential pillars upon which any progressive and morally upright society must stand.” Dr Aliyu emphasised.

Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor of UNN, Prof. Simon Uchenna Ortuanya, welcomed the ICPC team and applauded ICPC for staying true to its mandate of eradicating corruption across all sectors of Nigerian society.

According to the VC, “This University has carefully selected the finest crop of its staff to serve on this Unit. We have every confidence that they will collaborate effectively with the ICPC to elevate the standards of integrity and transparency within the university system.”

He further urged the new members to always discharge their duties without fear or favour, and to remain above board at all times.

In his acceptance speech, the newly inaugurated ACTU Chairman, Prof. Anselm Onyimonyi, Esq., expressed profound appreciation to the university’s management for finding him and his team worthy of the nomination.

“We shall give our utmost best in entrenching the values of integrity, transparency, and accountability in every facet of our duties. We will not let the management or the ICPC down.” He added.

The oath of allegiance was administered to the reconstituted members by Barr. Uche D. Akaa, Superintendent of Legal Services, ICPC, Enugu State office.
