In a concerted push to bolster integrity and curb institutional graft, the Oyo State office of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has formally inaugurated and sensitised members of the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) at the Nigerian Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) formally.
The event, held recently in Ibadan, centred on reinforcing the principles of transparency, accountability, and ethical conduct as cornerstones of effective public service delivery.
Speaking on behalf of the ICPC Chairman, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, Mr. Egunjobi Tope delivered a paper entitled “Anti-Corruption and Work Ethics.” He argued that the absence of integrity, accountability, and sound ethical values among public officers frequently creates fertile ground for corruption to thrive.
“Corruption remains a singularly formidable obstacle to Nigeria’s economic growth and institutional development,” Mr. Egunjobi told the gathering.
He added that meaningful workplace accountability could only be achieved through clearly defined organisational missions, goals, and operational expectations that ensure individuals are held accountable for their actions.
In a related presentation, Mrs. Odega Dubem of the SSRD Department explored “The Roles and Functions of ACTU in an Organisation.” She outlined the unit’s responsibilities in promoting ethical standards and compliance with integrity codes across the public service.
“ACTU plays a critical preventive role – stopping corrupt practices before they take root and ensuring that all levels of the public service adhere to the highest ethical benchmarks,” Mrs. Odega explained.
The NSITF Regional Manager, Mrs. E. O. Fadunsin, charged the newly sworn-in unit members to embrace their roles as agents of transformation within the Fund. She urged them to demonstrate unwavering commitment and dedication, whilst contributing positively to the institution’s strategic goals.
“Do not hesitate to speak up when necessary,” Mrs. Fadunsin counselled. “Make a meaningful impact in promoting accountability and ethical conduct throughout this organisation.”
She further tasked the ACTU members to uphold the core values of discipline, professionalism, efficiency, honesty, accountability, and institutional fidelity in the discharge of their responsibilities.
The ceremony concluded with the administration of the Oath of Allegiance and the Oath of Office to the newly inaugurated ACTU members, administered by the NSITF Regional Secretariat.
