ICPC Compels Former Governing Council Chairman of Federal Polytechnic to Return N4m Diverted Fund

A former Chairman of the Governing Council of Federal Polytechnic, Idah, Kogi State, Mr. Peter Gunah has returned the sum of N4million advanced to him by the institution for a project but which seemingly was diverted by him.

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) had swung into action upon the receipt of a petition which alleged that the former Governing Council Chairman of the Polytechnic had collected the sum of N4million which was meant to provide logistics for the setting up of an Agricultural Engineering Department in the Polytechnic.

Mr. Gunah, however did not carry out the project nor return the money by the time he was removed from office.

In the course of its investigation, the Commission invited Mr. Gunah for questioning during which he claimed that he had not “disappeared” with the money as alleged in the petition but “was looking for a most appropriate way of returning the money to the Polytechnic”. According to him, the investigation therefore afforded him a good opportunity to do so.

Mr. Gunah, therefore, paid back the money into the Recovery Account of the Commission which was subsequently released to the Federal Polytechnic, Idah.

The management of the Polytechnic has written to acknowledge the receipt of the money and commended ICPC for its efforts in the recovery.
