An Abuja High Court sitting in Maitama has sentenced Mr Emmaunel Ikechukwu Ihediwa to a one – year imprisonment for defrauding Nkechinyere Mercy Onuoha of N 1.5million.
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) had dragged Mr Ihediwa before Justice Umar Abubakar Sidiq on a two -count charge of impersonation and forgery which are contrary to Section 132 of the Penal Code cap.532.
The ICPC counsel, Mr. Osuoben Ekoi Akponimisingha, in his submission, said the accused had used a forged identity card of the Federal Ministry 0f Information and Communication to obtain the sum of N1.5 million from Onuoha and 5 other people, with the promise of securing employment for them in different government agencies.
Ihediwa pleaded guilty when all the charges were read to him by the judge upon an application by the prosecution counsel for summary trial.
Justice Sidiq, in his ruling, convicted and sentenced the accused to one year imprisonment with the option of a fine of N50, 000.
