Ex-LG secretary jailed for 6 months ICPC

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences (ICPC) said an FCT High Court presided by Justice Hussaini Baba has sentenced the former Secretary of the Gwagwalada Area Council Tenders Board Mr. Etsu Iliya to six months imprisonment with an option of N50, 000 fine for the misappropriation of  N250, 000.

A statement signed by the Commission’s head public enlightenment, Mr Mike Sowe, said Mr Iliya was arraigned by the ICPC before the Abuja High Court in July 2007 for violating section 12 sub section 3 of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act 2000.

The convict was said to have received the sum of N250, 000 from the Gwagwalada Area Council for the placement of an Advertisement in an Abuja based newspaper for which he tendered a fake receipt as retirement, while Investigations by operatives of the Commission however revealed that Mr. Iliya placed the said advertisement at the cost of N30, 000.

Before he was arraigned in Court, Mr Iliya had confessed that he committed the offence during interrogation at the Commission`s Headquarters and refunded the sum of N220, 000.
