The attention of the Commission has been drawn to a congratulatory message published on page 51 of June 6, 2015 edition of The Punch titled, “ICPC Hails Shehu, Adesina’s Appointments.”
- While ICPC does not in any way doubt the competence and suitability of the officers for their appointments, the message did not emanate from it as its official position.
- The Commission has noted that the publisher took immediate steps to correct the online caption and the URL to read “Olamiti Hails Shehu, Adesina’s Appointments” following Mr. Folu Olamiti’s averment that it was his private and individual message.
- Against this backdrop, the Commission requests that the story be retracted by the newspaper that originally published the statement for the benefit of its discerning readers.
