The Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Mr. Ekpo Nta has been conferred with an award of fellowship by the Governing Board of the Institute of Corporate Administration (ICA).
Mr. Nta was given the award during the opening ceremony of a three-day seminar on 2016 Administrative Professionals Conference organized by the Board in Abuja with the theme “Rebooting Your Career for the New Work Environment.”
Speaking during the programme, Nta urged Nigerians to invest more in proffering anti-corruption solutions rather than just talking about corruption. He highlighted the need for ICT-savvy Nigerian youths to be resourceful while taking cognizance of the necessity to join in the anti-corruption effort so that they earn money by helping to design software programmes and design systems that can prevent fraud in the country as well as reduce poverty.
Addressing the participants, the ICPC Chairman advised them to always adhere to rules, regulations and procedures put in place to ensure the proper and orderly functioning of the society. Non adherence as a result of “bigmanism”, he added, often creates an environment for corruption to thrive as systems would be compromised.
While commending the Governing Board of the Institute for the award, he promised to do his very best to keep the ideals of the award.
Earlier in a keynote address on “Effective Leadership and Nigeria’s Economic Rebirth”, the Chief Learning Officer of the Institute, Dr. Godswill C. Onyekwere, stressed the need for leaders to do away with “the attitude of clinging to the success factors of the past and devise ways to key into the accelerated changes happening in the world today for economic growth”.
Mr. Onyekwere further advised that ineffective managerial skills which do not add value to the economy must be replaced with modern technology and automation in order to be in tune with current realities.
Also, delivering a paper titled, “Rebooting Your Career for the New Economy”, Mr. Rawlins Orobogha, a resource person at the event, said that changes at the workplace were inevitable, adding that rebooting and kick-starting a career through knowledge, change and globalization must be in place for workers to adapt to modern day challenges.
According to him, “you have to keep changing, improving and updating yourself to be needed in an organisation. In our search for operational effectiveness, we must not relent but run with changes, for the future of our economy and organisations depends on the choices and changes we make today; keep changing and rebooting.”
