The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) in collaboration with the Bureau for Public Procurement (BPP), Technical Unit on Governance and Anti-Corruption Reforms (TUGAR) and the support of the United Nation Development Programme (UNDP) is set to train 100 participants as corruption risk assessors.
This was revealed by the Ag Chairman of the Commission Mr Ekpo Nta Esq at the high level policy briefing on the Corruption Risk Assessment Project held at Sheraton Hotel which was convened by the organizers under the flag of the Inter Agency Task Team (IATT) comprising twenty one members made up of various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
Mr Nta said “the Corruption Risk Assessment Project (CRA) brings a valuable dimension to the corruption prevention work of the ICPC. The focus of the CRA project is to identify within organizations operational areas that are vulnerable to corrupt practices, proffer recommendations and jointly develop, with the management of organizations, action plans to strengthen accountability and transparency towards enhanced public service delivery.”
The 8 – week online and face-to-face training for the 100 participants drawn from various Millennium Development Goals – related MDAs, Media and Civil Society Organizations will commence next week in Obudu Mountain, Cross River State in conjunction with the UNDP virtual school in Geneva.
According to the UNDP Consultants, Mr. Constantine Palicarsky and Chinedum Nwoko, in their presentation of the methodology, tools and training modules, only participants that scored above 75 will be issued certificates as Assessors while others may be issued with certificates of attendance.
In a brief remark the Country Representative of the UNDP, Mr Janthomas Hiemstra advocated for a system audit of all the MDAs at all levels of government in order to identify and block loop holes in corruption-prone agencies.
Also speaking at the event; the Head of the Technical Unit on Governance and Anti-Corruption Reforms (TUGAR) Mrs Lilian Ekeanyanwu, thanked all partners in the project especially the UNDP, BPP and the ICPC for a long sustained relationship on various programmes since 2007.
In the vote of thanks on behalf of the ICPC, the Director of Education, Mrs R A Okoduwa thanked all stakeholders of the project for their commitment towards the success of the project.
