The Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) in collaboration with the National University Commission (NUC) have launched a system review into tertiary institutions in Nigeria with a view to weeding out endemic corruption in their systems.
Both bodies at a joint press conference in Abuja noted that the most tertiary institutions in Nigeria are now bedevilled by corruptive tendencies including racketeering with admission process, examination malpractices, sexual harrassments on the part of students and lecturers and acts of plagiarism.
ICPC and NUC agreed that the delay and non-payment of gratuities to pensioners, falsification and manipulation of examination records, non-adherence to contract bidding and award process and basterdisation of accreditation process are part of the vices to be fought and exterminated in Nigerian Universities.
The Acting chairman of ICPC, Barrister Ekpo Nta who addressed the media said first class scholars such as Professor Okebukola, Professor Olu Aina had been called on board to spearhead the system review of universities.
