The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences (ICPC) said it has gotten an approval from an Oyo State High Court to arraign former Commissioner of Works and Housing his wife who served under Adebayo Alao Akala’s administration.
“The High Court of Oyo state sitting in Ibadan has given the ICPC the go-ahead to arraign Mrs Gbonjubola Balogun and her husband Dr Kola Balogun, a former Commissioner for Works and Housing under the Administration of Governor Alao Akala,” ICPC’s head Public Enlightenment; Mike Sowe, said in a statement yesterday in Abuja.
Sowe said this was the ruling by “the trial judge Justice Boade after a protracted battle by the Defense counsel to quash the 2 count charge brought against the accused persons by the Commission.”
He said the case started in 2007 when the ICPC filed charges against Mrs Gbonjubola Balogun for having an indirect private interest in a contract emanating from a government office while being a public officer; and her husband Dr Kola Balogun for abetting his wife.
But Justice Boade agreed with the Prosecution that the two accused persons have explanations to make in their trial with respect to the transaction upon which they stand trial.
