A staff of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Mr. Paul Ahmed Bassi has been appointed as a Judge of the National Industrial Court.
Mr. Bassi was one of the 19 Judges that were sworn-in by the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Onnoghen, in Abuja.
Hon. Justice Paul Bassi who hails from Borno State, attended the University of Maiduguri and was called to bar in 2000. He joined ICPC in 2005 and had until his appointment served as a Senior Prosecutor in the Prosecution Department of the Commission. Hon. Justice Bassi has to his credit several prosecutorial successes of the Commission.
While swearing in the newly-appointed judges, Justice Onnoghen, who is also the President of the National Judicial Council (NJC) charged them to always be guided by their oath of office, the ethics of the Bench, and the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria which they had sworn to protect and defend.
He explained that impunity can only be checkmated by the law, while urging them to adhere strictly to the tenets of the constitution.
“Be on the side of the law and posterity will always judge you right”, he enjoined them.
