As part of its core duty which is preventing corruption in Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) of the Ministry of Transportation in collaboration with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), has recently organized a workshop for staff of Nigeria Airspace Management Authority (NAMA) of Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano
The aim of the workshop was to sensitize the staff on the need to imbibe integrity and uphold good ethical values in order to create and sustain a corruption-free working environment in their agency.
The training featured paper presentations by ICPC officials. The first one was a paper titled: “Effective Work Ethics for Enhanced Productivity”. It was delivered by Mrs. Rasheedat Okoduwa mni, Director, Public Enlightenment and ICPC’s Spokesperson who told the participants that for any organisation to succeed in discharging its responsibilities effectively, there must be guiding principles that would enable its staff to discharge their duties efficiently for optimum productivity.
Mrs. Okoduwa stressed the importance of effective work ethics in the promotion of good governance in order for transparency and accountability to thrive. She noted that motivation and attitude help to increase the capacities of individual staff in the discharge their duties.
Another paper titled: “An Overview of Anti-Corruption Law in Nigeria” was presented by Mr. Akeem Lawal fsi, Head of Corruption Monitoring and Evaluation Department (CMED) of ICPC. The paper dwelt on the work of agencies that are responsible for fighting corruption in Nigeria. It discussed the establishment of ICPC, the promulgation of Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act 2000 as well as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (Establishment) Act. 2002 and the Code of Conduct for Public Officers.
At the end of the workshop, the ACTU Chairman, Mr. Patrick Chukwuedo, of NAMA, commended the Commission for educating the agency’s staff on the relevant anti-corruption laws. He also used the opportunity to urge them to perform their duties with a high level of integrity and accountability for a better NAMA.
